31 students and 3 staff from Blackpool Sixth Form College have returned from Greece after an epic journey by land and sea across Europe.
The students, all taking the highly popular and successful A level Classical Civilisation course, enjoyed a fantastic five day visit to the Greek capital to see ancient sites which relate to their studies. Their programme included ancient wonders such as the Parthenon and Acropolis as well as the world renowned National Museum.
The flight-ban due to volcanic ash prolonged their stay in Greece and meant an odyssey across Europe by ferry and coach to return safely to Blackpool today.
The group left Greece by ferry at 7pm on Tuesday arriving at Ancona on Wednesday afternoon. They then traveled to Montacatini in Italy where they spent the night in a hotel, before setting off for Calais, France, on Thursday morning. They undertook the final leg of this marathon today with the channel crossing and arrived back in Blackpool at 2.30 p.m.
The group are all safe and well and despite their obvious tiredness have no regrets about the visit. One student, James Cameron, commented, “It was brilliant and it was all handled so well.” Parents of the students commented on how they appreciated the College’s stringent efforts to keep them informed and reassured. A parent said, “The College have been great. They kept us informed every day and they’ve all been looked after really well.”
Principal Felicity Greeves commented, “International visits like this are an immensely important part of the enriched curriculum which we offer our students. We are so glad that they have returned to us safely and we are looking forward to hearing more about their experiences.”
