Invited guests from the educational and business community of the Fylde coast gathered yesterday evening to join in the celebration for the 21st birthday of the Blackpool Sixth Form. The event has extra significance as Blackpool Sixth also launched its exciting new brand image and announced the third phase of its building programme which will start in July.
Since September 1989 the Sixth Form College on Blackpool Old Road has been serving the whole Fylde coast area through its provision of 16-19 education.
Excellence, high aspirations and a strong sense of community have always been at the heart of Blackpool Sixth’s mission, as has a focus on developing mind and character. The Sixth Form has moved with the times – greatly expanding the courses on offer and ensuring that its teaching and learning is always inspiring. It has re-developed the campus with state of the art facilities which are amongst the best in the country.
In 2009 Blackpool Sixth received the huge accolade of an overall “Grade 1: Outstanding” from our Ofsted inspection. In the same year our students achieved the best ever set of results, with an overall pass rate of 99%.
This evening, Blackpool Sixth launches its new brand image to reflect a focus on the future. The college crest has evolved into something new: a symbol of the energy, enthusiasm and confidence with which it looks to the years ahead.
Blackpool Sixth is also able to confirm that it has the go-ahead for a further phase of building. This will create a new theatre, performance studios and high quality classroom space for the departments of Performing Arts and English and Modern Foreign languages. This work will begin in the summer and will be completed ready for the 2011-12 academic year.
