Blackpool Sixth Form student James Davies, from Poulton-le-Fylde, has recently been awarded the gold medal in the Aviva National Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. Out of 23 competitors he came first in the Long Jump event with a final effort of 7.13 metres.
James currently receives regular top level coaching at Sport City, Manchester, which has been instrumental in his most recent achievement, for which James has been awarded funding from the Lancashire Rising Star Fund, The Ron Pickering Memorial Fund, and Sports Aid in association with Asda Sporting Chance.
James has also been recruited by England Athletics into the Elite Athlete Squad and could be representing Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.
James started his athletic career at the age of 9 whilst still at primary school. His talents were spotted early and since then he has been competing for Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Athletic Club, where he holds the records for Long and Triple Jump, and for the 100m metres sprint.
James has also competed for England in the 2009 Home Countries International Championships in Northern Ireland and in the UK School Games. He currently holds records both regionally and nationally in his favoured events of Long Jump, Triple Jump and 100 metres sprint.
